Richard Lee Tenley, 84, of Mechanicsville, died peacefully in his home, with family at his bedside, on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, with the Rev. Ronald Lashmit officiating. Burial will follow in the Red Oak Grove Cemetery. One of 12 children, Richard was born to Howard and Mildred (Horne) Tenley, on Sunday, May 16, 1937, in Anamosa, Iowa. Richard graduated from Stanwood High School, with the Class of 1956. On Oct. 17, 1956, Richard was united in marriage to Leora Mae Wagner in Durant, Iowa. Richard was born to be a farmer; which is where he spent his whole life, planting corn and beans, milking cows and raising animals. Together, Leora and Richard raised their children on the family farm, the same home where he drew his last breath.

Richard is survived by his four children, Cathy (Larry) Boesenberg of Brooklyn, Iowa, Pamela (Mike) St. John of Stanwood, Iowa, Dennis (Debra) Tenley of Stanwood, Iowa, and Brian (Nicole) Tenley of Olin, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Wagner of Stanwood, Iowa, Mary (James) Clark of Tipton, Iowa, Linda Walshire of Kansas and Wanda (Gordon) Farrington of Mechanicsville, Iowa; and brothers, John (Karen) Tenley of Stanwood, Iowa, and Dale (Donna) Tenley of Toronto, Iowa.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leora, July 27, 2007; grandson, Brady Tenley; brothers, Dean Tenley, Roger Tenley and Steven Tenley; and sisters, Martha Becker and Della Tenley.
