Mercy Aquatics Center closing is a tragedy

Tragedy. My Webster dictionary definition says a tragedy is a serious drama with a sorrowful, or disastrous conclusion. Such tragedy is taking place at the Mercy Aquatics Center in Cedar Rapids. The pool will close March 1.
The 92-degree water temperature, along with a lift chair and arm and legs weights, have been healthy tools to help pool participants to exercise, move comfortably, maintain or gain strength and keep muscles limber. It is essential for many pool patrons to be in such warm water. Otherwise, their muscles cramp and tighten up.
Over the past 16 years that I have regularly walked and exercised in this pool, I have witnessed people recover from surgery, mend broken bones, heal from falls and accidents or feel relief from pain for the short period of times they are in the water. Many people have participated in exercise classes, in these important times of relieving stress and staying physically fit.
This therapy pool have been my lifeline, my dose of medicine, that has helped me in dealing with my physical difficulties of being wheelchair bound.
This pool closing is a tragedy, with a sad and devastating conclusion for those of us who might not find another alternative plan that will work.
