Lower levels at Coralville Lake prompt warning for boaters

The Coralville Lake level is sitting about four feet lower than summer months, meaning some areas aren't safe for boat travel.
John Castle, lake operations manager, said the levels have been adjusted as a normal spring procedure in order to gain a little additional storage. He said the Corps of Engineers plans to raise lake levels back to normal around May 20. But until that happens, he said boat travel beyond the Macbride Lake dam isn't advised for people who aren't extremely familiar with the lake.
Caution signs will be posted in the area to remind people, Castle said. He said boats traveling in the shallower areas risk getting stuck or damaged. The water levels should stay normal during the summer, he added.
