I have an old friend from my Dubuque days named Todd Smith. He was in town last weekend. It'd been a while and so we did what Dubuquers do. We ended up at Wheel'R In somewhere near Marion.
Had an excellent time. I forgot how much fun Todd is.
It turns out Todd owns a bar in Minneapolis called The Nomad. I asked if he had Iowa fans for the Gophers game. He said no. I said why the H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks not?
The Nomad is across the street from Palmer's, which will be and has been an Iowa bar. Todd said two years ago there were so many people between the two bars on the street that it was tough for cars to work around it.
Here's what The Nomad has to offer (in Todd's verbage):
• We open at 6:30am (early morning futbol). Game time is 2pm.
• Nomad Bloody Mary's. You feel like your in Wisconsin there's so much (Bloody Mary food) in the glass. Beefstick, cheese, pepperchini, olives et al.
• Upper Midwest's largest toast buffet. Mmm. Toast. Free.
• BBQ Grill. You bring it you grill it. Free.
• Bocce Ball Courts. Free. Tourney after the game.
• Outdoor HDTV/ lots of indoor screens.
• $3 Jameson shots all day
• Burgers and Brats after the game.
• Bluegrass starting at 5pm. No cover if you're here before the music starts, or were wrist-banded before the game. Bands till 2am. There's some really good bands on Saturday: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=260356847340039

Parking information is also listed on this page. 1 of the listed options is the University's 19th St. ramp, it's 1/2 block from the Nomad. From there, there is a shuttle bus that runs from the 19th St ramp every 15minutes starting 4 hours before the game, and every 5 minutes 2 hours before the game, every 15 minutes during the game, continuously for 1 hour after the game, and then every 15 minutes until there is no demand. It's really easy.
Note: There is no beer in the stadium. Stupid Minnesota rule.
I think Todd mentioned they have Jameson on tap. Jameson on tap.
Not an advertisement, I think you might have fun. Frankly, I hate turning an old-school Dubuquer loose on you guys. We tend to be the life of the party and the after party and whatever you call the after after party.
Enjoy!
