Monette McVay, 71, of Norway, Iowa, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021, at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Monette was born Dec. 10, 1949, to Nathan and Hazel (Ford) Coates in Port St. Joe, Fla. She graduated in 1968 from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids. Monette married Richard McVay on Oct. 23, 1976, in Moline, Ill. Together they raised their children in Norway, Iowa, where she worked at Ray Grocery Store, then Frontier for about 15 years.
Monette enjoyed crocheting, watching the Chicago Cubs, and cheering for her children at all their sporting events, most of all, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Richard "Dick" McVay of Norway; children, Trey (Kelli) Jamesson of Keystone, Caley (Tim) Gibbins of Sandy Hook, Conn., Geoff McVay of Danbury, Conn., and TJ McVay of Sandy Hook, Conn.; and grandchildren, Cale, Lanie, Makena and Brooklyn.
Monette is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Dorinda Coates.
