Ricky Stanzi: The No. 1 quarterback in the Big Ten instead of Terrelle Pryor? An Ohio State blog says yes
Mike Hlas May. 7, 2010 12:21 pm
The Ohio State Buckeyes fan site, Eleven Warriors, ranked all 11 Big Ten teams' quarterbacks heading into the 2010 season.
No. 2 is Ohio State, with a fellow named Terrelle Pryor.
No. 1, with Ricky Stanzi the incumbent starter, is Iowa.
Eleven Warriors on Pryor: I love Terrelle Pryor just as much as any of you and I think the Rose Bowl TP you saw in January will show up more often than not this fall, but until he proves he is a master of Jim Tressel's offense, I cannot subject myself to falling for an inconsistency act.
Eleven Warriors on Stanzi: Stanzi gives Iowa the nod over OSU on this list due to his strong arm, good decision making, pocket presence, and more importantly, his knack for being able to get the job done in the clutch. The latter is what Buckeye fans hope Pryor is able to do this year and is what separates the two, just slightly on the list.
There is more to both, as well as the other nine Big Ten quarterbacking situations. It's just one blog, but it's a fun read if you're a Big Ten wonk. The entire post is here.
I think it's apples and oranges and you can do very well with either QB.
Pryor may find his groove this year and become the dominating college player he was projected to be when he was the all-world prep. But I see Stanzi having a truly big season, throwing away the memories of all those interceptions a season ago when he still came up a winner.
With the receivers he'll have in Marvin McNutt, Derrell Johnson-Koulianos, Colin Sandeman and tight end Allen Reisner, some games might be like pinball machines yardage-wise. Assuming the offensive line is, of course, competent.
For you young people, I'll explain pinball to you another time.
