Bill and Terri Day will hang up their aprons for the last time today at Teri D's, a restaurant they opened in February on the upper level of Westdale Mall in Cedar Rapids. Terri Day said a new owner, Gary Scott, will open a restaurant in the spot Thursday. Efforts to reach Scott for further details were not successful. The Days said they made the decision to sell because the restaurant was consuming more of their time than they originally thought it would.
'We just can't spend 24-7 here anymore,' Terri Day said.
'We've really enjoyed the mall and the business is doing very well.
Everyone is very upset that we're leaving, and we're upset, but you have to do what you have to do sometimes,' she said.
Bill Day said operating the restaurant has left little time for visiting family members in their native Oskaloosa.
'Gary wants to have his own restaurant, so it was a blessing in disguise I guess,' Bill Day said. 'It was just getting to be so many hours for us.' Terri Day said the couple will take their menu and the name of the restaurant with them. Scott will rename the restaurant and offer a different menu, she said. Teri D's, which took over space formerly occupied by Maid-Rite, had been open for breakfast and lunch Monday through Saturday. The restaurant, which had developed a following among mall and Linn County employees as well as shoppers, was closed Sundays.
