EASTLAKE, Ohio - The Cedar Rapids Kernels scored six runs in the fourth inning and Brian Diemer pitched five innings of one-hit ball in a 6-0, rain-shortened Midwest League victory over the Lake County Captains on Saturday night.
The game was called by rain after the Kernels had batted in the top of the sixth.
Diemer (8-7) only allowed one-out fourth-inning single to Jordan Casas, who was erased on a double play. Diemer faced 16 batters, one above the minimum.
The Kernels (13-15, second half) used five singles and three walks to score their six runs in the fourth.
The teams play Game 2 of the series Sunday at noon. Max Russell (5-9) is scheduled to start for Cedar Rapids.
