Follow police, not Facebook pages

On May 30, something happened down the street from my house, and fewer than 100 feet from a school in session, that was apparently so significant that no fewer than nine marked squad cars were dispatched to the location.
I wonder what could have attracted so much attention from police, yet received zero coverage on news broadcasts or in the newspaper?
Perhaps if the news outlets spent less time on self-promotional social media fluff and more time actually covering the news, they would find that the scope and quality of their content has much more of an impact on their viewership/readership than does begging for Facebook likes.
