We could end up with a lot of different weather conditions today across Eastern Iowa, including high heat and heavy rain chances -- in places.
Here's the details, from KCRG-TV9 First Alert Storm Team meteorologist Kaj O'Mara:
Our warm and muggy airmass continues to sit across the Midwest, and the big challenge of the day is whether or not we'll see a heavy amount of rain. With light winds, if a storm moves over your area, it will be capable of torrential rain and will be moving extremely slow. The best chance to see this scattered activity would be this morning through the afternoon. This airmass is similar to a tropical one in which pop-up storms occur daily, so not everybody will get wet, but most will. Flash flooding may be a growing concern as we go through the afternoon, depending on morning rainfall.
As an example of the odd weather conditions today: We've had reports of pea-sized hail in southwest Cedar Rapids, while the northeast side was sunny at the same time.
