BELOIT, Wis. - Beloit and Cedar Rapids swapped five-run innings last night, but the Snapper added a little bit more in an 11-8 victory over the Kernels last night in a Midwest League game.
Beloit had an 11-5 lead through seven innings, but Cedar Rapids made it interesting with a three-run eighth. Jean Segura and Casey Haerther singled, and Jose Jimenez walked to load the bases.
Michael Win doubled to score them all.
After a pitching change, Justin Bass singled, but Jon Karcich grounded into a double play to end the rally.
Matt Long's three-run triple was the big blow in the Kernels' five-run third inning. Starter Garrett Richards (6-4) worked 3 1/3 innings and took the loss, allowing eight runs (six earned). He gave up six hits and walked six. The Midwest League teams play again tonight at 7 in Beloit.
