Police think they know who stabbed a man and assaulted another after they went to a northwest Cedar Rapids home to look at a car for sale early Saturday morning.
“We have a good idea of who it was,” police Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said.
Peter Borchardt, 29, of New Hampton, Jeffrey Palovsky, 47, of Fredericksburg, and a third man went to 161 Eastview Dr. NW shortly after 7 a.m., according to Hamblin. There was no answer to their knock on the door, so the third man returned to their car to get a phone to call the car's owner.
That's when two to four people ran from the house and attacked Borchardt and Palovsky. Borchardt suffered a minor stab wound during the melee and lost his wallet, which one of the assailants grabbed from the ground before the group ran off.
Borchardt was taken to St. Luke's Hospital with what Hamblin described as a non-life-threatening wound. He wasn't listed as a patient Monday afternoon.
Police searched the area and the house, which was unlocked. No one was arrested, but the investigation continues.
