A former Marion man previously convicted of traveling to Texas and sexually assaulting an underage girl now faces at least 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to attempted enticement in Clinton.
Scott A. Halverson, 46, now of Waukee, pleaded guilty Wednesday to attempted enticement of a minor in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa in Davenport. Halverson was accused of chatting online and traveling to Clinton and trying to meet a 14-year-old girl. The girl ended up being an undercover Clinton County Sheriff's Deputy.
Halverson now faces at least 10 years in prison when he is sentenced Nov. 19. He remains in jail in Muscatine County, online court records show.
Halverson pleaded guilty in 1998 to a Texas charge of sexual assault of a child younger than 17. He received a five-year deferred sentence and probation in that case. Halverson agreed to meet a 15-year-old girl in Texas, where, the girl told authorities, the evening ended in a motel.
