Long bills not just from Democrats
The Gazette Opinion Staff

There may be good arguments against the health care reform bill but one argument that has no validity is that it's 2,000-plus pages in length.
Sure, it's a big, complex bill. It's a big, complex problem. If the bill works, it doesn't matter how long it is. And if it doesn't work, it doesn't matter how short it is.
Underscoring this point is the fact that there were no complaints when the Republicans authored the “Efficient Transportation Act” in 2005, which was only 60 words shorter than the current health care reform bill.
According to opencongress.org, among the 10 longest bills in the past 10 years, five were written by Democrats and five by Republicans (see snipurl.com/tuw10).
