Man dies after being found bleeding under bridge in I.C.

Iowa City police are investigating the death of a man who was found bleeding underneath the Highway 6 bridge in Iowa City Monday morning.

The Iowa City Fire Department, and the Johnson County Ambulance Service were dispatched to the bike trail under the Highway 6 bridge at 11:42 a.m. after they received a call from someone who said they found the man unconscious and bleeding from the head. The man had not been riding a bicycle, police said.

Police said the man died later at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. At this time, police said they do not suspect foul play.

“We are treating it as a death investigation, and any time we do that we have to go in with an open mind,” Iowa City Police Lieutenant Doug Hart said. “But at this time it on the surface, it does not look like there is anything overtly suspicious.”

Hart added they are not going to release the man's identity until family can be notified.
