Lindo, Beatriz D. 'Betty'
Beatriz D. “Betty” Lindo of 6601 Arbor Lane NE greeted everyone with a smile on her face and a warm heart. On Nov. 19, 2011, at age 75, Betty passed away at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a short-term illness. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Beatriz “Betty” Lindo was one of the most beautiful, loving, thoughtful, and generous people in this world. She was born July 29, 1936, in Manila, Philippines, to the late Remedios Del Carmen and Gaudioso Tuazon Duran.
Betty has one stepmother, Emilia Lanuza; four brothers, Oscar, Manuel, Remy and Juan; and two sisters, Luz and Josse.
She went to school at Far Eastern University and studied science education and home economics. In the Philippines, Betty worked at the National Irrigation Administration as a government employee. On Jan. 22, 1957, she was united in marriage to Benjamin C. Lindo in Manila, Philippines; they were married for 38 years. On Nov. 7, 1969, Betty and Benjamin moved their family to Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Betty maintained a career in customer service at Alliant Energy; soon after she retired, Betty worked part-time at Younker's jewelry counter. She received awards for outstanding customer service and an Ambassador Award at Younkers. In addition to this, she devoutly prepared the flowers and communion for her church.
Betty is survived by her two sons, Benjamin Lindo Jr. and Noel (Cindy Orris) Lindo; her daughter, Dorcas Sather and her spouse, Chris Sather; her 12 grandchildren, Tasha Lindo Strand, Fahlin Lindo, Ashley Lindo, Zachary Lindo, Taylor Lindo, Jesse Lindo, Kenzie Lindo, Christopher Lindo, Stephanie Lindo, Christian Sather, Brandon Sather and Tanner Sather; and her eight great-grandchildren. She is further survived by many nephews and nieces and several other family members in the states and Philippines.
Betty never remarried after the death of her husband in 1995; she was forever devoted to her husband and family.
She is best remembered for her kind, welcoming spirit; her love for game shows and gambling fun; contagious laughter; pride in her family; and Filipino delicacies (especially her delicious egg rolls).
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
