Requirements punish law-abiding gun users
The Gazette Opinion Staff

In response to the Jan. 7 Gazette editorial “Gun-carry law needs repair”: I wish liberals would stop trying to change the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. It says the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. It does not say anything about how, when or where you can carry your firearm or taking classes and applying for permits.
Perhaps people drinking too much alcohol and who get a little false courage will think twice before they jump someone not knowing if they are armed or not. It's time to stand up for our constitutional rights.
Alaska and Texas are two of the biggest states in the union where more people carry, and their crime rate is less than other states.
Criminals will always have guns, and they don't bother to take a course on the shooting range to demonstrate they know how to safely handle a weapon, nor do they register their weapons. Requiring courses and permits only punishes the law-abiding citizens who wish to exercise their right, which was granted them by the Second Amendment to defend themselves and family.
Our troops are dying trying to defend our rights and freedom, and we should all be concerned to keep what is ours.
