Lyle was born to Wesley and Eleanor (Hospodarsky) Svoboda in Cedar Rapids on June 27, 1943, the youngest of four siblings. He attended Prairie High School, where he excelled in baseball, basketball, football and track. His name could often be found in The Gazette as Prairie's high point man in the most recent basketball game or the Prairie pitcher who threw a one-hit game to lead the Hawks to a win. He lettered all four years in each sport, except football, because his mother would not let him play his freshman year. His love of sport continued throughout his life whether it was participating in a men's softball league or shooting hoops in the driveway behind his house.
He married Jacqueline ("Jackie") White on Aug. 3, 1978, and they spent many happy years together. They loved to get in the car and go, traveling to locations all over the country, the favorite of which was Branson, Mo.
He worked for many years at Turner Microphone until the company closed. He then went to work for Alliant Energy, where he held many different positions. Finally, he transferred to Duane Arnold Energy, where he completed his career, retiring in 2006.
He loved to laugh, enjoyed working outside in his yard and spending time with those he loved. He was always ready to join in on the "Left, Right, Center" game that inevitably popped up whenever his family was together.
He leaves behind his wife, Jackie; his children, Pam (Rick) Post, Phil White, Stacy (Mike) Sebby and Trent Svoboda; his grandchildren, Matt (Dee) Post, April (Rich) Smith, Nick (Sarah) White, Janelle White, Alec White, Cappra Svoboda, Braeden Svoboda, Micaela Sebby and Jessica Sebby; his great-grandchildren, Luke Post, Nicholas Post, Zachary Post, Bricen White, Ayla Fine, Kennedy Smith, Xander Smith, Eleanor White, Jack White and Alice White; his sister-in-law Betty Svoboda; as well as his nieces and nephews.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Eldred "Eldie" Svoboda and Clifford "Cliff" Svoboda; his sister, Lucille "Lou" Skiba;, Gregory White; and Anita Langham, his mother-in-law.
