Vernon not afraid to lead
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Nov. 6, 2011 7:18 pm
If you study the District 2 Cedar Rapids City Council candidates, there is only one with business experience and demonstrated community leadership. Monica Vernon runs a successful market research business and is actively engaged on the council and in our community. She is a highly qualified council member and we need her expertise going forward as we address important issues such as flood control, street and sewer repairs, safety of neighborhoods and building a stronger business climate.
Monica is someone you can count on. She is a problem solver and builder. Her vision and planning after the devastating flood in 2008 are evident throughout our downtown area. The new federal courthouse, library, central fire facility, events center and renovated Paramount Theatre are just a few examples of how she worked with the council and community leaders to get things done. She also worked tirelessly on behalf of our neighborhoods to build additional replacement homes and to make sure they would complement the neighborhood areas. She is not afraid of stepping out to lead the way. Now, more than ever, her experience and leadership are needed.
