Police put convenience above community

“Wow” sums up the Venetian Boat Parade and fireworks display put on by the Cedar River Boat Club on Saturday. The positive experience went far beyond the lights and sounds. The sense of homecoming had a healing effect on our city and a part of our community still reeling from the flood devastation.
The “do not advertise” directive handed down by our local police department and city leaders and their desire to keep the crowds small so as to not need the police is more of a statement of not wanting to be inconvenienced. Other arrangements should have been made.
An opportunity was missed for our peace officers, alongside the people they swear to protect and to serve, to witness another truly amazing step to reviving a desperately needed area of our community.
