Copper wire stripped from former Quality Chef building

Burglars broke in and stripped $3,000 worth of copper wire from the old Quality Chef building on Third Street SE, police reported Monday.
The city of Cedar Rapids owns the building at 1100 Third St. SE, and Public Works uses it as a warehouse, police said. The burglary happened some time between Feb. 19 and Feb. 25.
The city purchased the building in 2005 and has toyed with the idea of demolishing and turning it into a farmer's market.
