City of Iowa City gets its mayor on Web page first; Halloran still mayor at Cedar Rapids' Web page
Jan. 4, 2010 8:47 am
The city of Iowa City has beaten the city of Cedar Rapids to the punch in acknowledging its new mayor.
By Monday morning, the city of Iowa City had a spot on its Web page identifying council member Matt Hayek as the city's new mayor. The City Council there on Saturday selected Hayek among its members to be mayor.
Conversely, the city of Cedar Rapids' Web page still was calling Kay Halloran the city's mayor.
Halloran chose not to seek re-election, and Ron Corbett defeated Brian Fagan, then a council member, in November for the job of mayor.
Corbett took the oath of office – along with five council members beginning new four-year terms - on Saturday morning in the lobby of the Veterans Memorial Building on May's Island.
As of Monday morning, though, he was not yet mayor on the city's Web page.
