2012 Kernels Coaching Staff

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim has named the coaching staff for the 2012 Cedar Rapids Kernels.
Manager, Jamie Burke:
Burke played for the 1994 Cedar Rapids Kernels, the last Kernels team to win a Midwest League Championship. He spent time in the Major Leagues as a catcher and infielder for the Angels, White Sox, Mariners, and Nationals. He was drafted by the Angels in the 9th round of the 1993 draft out of Oregon State University. He retired at the end of the 2010 season. This will be Burke's first season as a manager.
Pitching Coach, Chris Gissell:
Gissell appeared in five Major League games as a pitcher with the Colorado Rockies in 2004. He also pitched professionally in Japan and Taiwan. Gissell was originally drafted for the Chicago Cubs in the fourth round of the 1996 draft out of Vancouver, WA. He ended his playing career in 2009 in the Oakland A's organization.
Hitting Coach, Mike Eylward:
Elyward is returning to Cedar Rapids after spending the 2011 season as the Kernels hitting coach. He played for the Kernels in 2001 and 2002 after being drafted by the Angels in the 44th round of the 2001 draft. He played eight seasons in the minor leagues.
