Watershed problems need to be addressed
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Mar. 31, 2011 12:30 pm
The Gazette's March 11 editorial, “It's the DNR's job,” was timely and pointed out a weakness of not addressing the watershed problems that could reduce flooding.
Northeast Iowa has been tiled out, which allows much water to come down the Northeast Iowa rivers. Other areas haven't been addressed with methods of slowing and absorbing the water that farmers could use to save soil. Many conservation basins along the rivers could be developed for wild life and be productive hunting areas and fishing.
It is time we address this issue, and please keep up your columns and articles on water management. State Sen. Rob Hogg is a good ally in this program.
