Iowa City police have accused a 50-year-old man of providing beer to a group of teenage boys, two of which had been reported missing.
Officers also say Donald L. Deege befriended the teens and allowed them to spend the last two weekends at his apartment without their parents' knowledge.
Deege is charged with two counts of supplying alcohol to minors, a serious misdemeanor. According to police complaints, Deege was pulled over for a routine traffic stop May 18 when an officer noticed he had three teenage boys in his car. One of the boys was holding a beer and appeared to be intoxicated. After searching Deege's home, police determined the beer was located at his house.
The complaint says Deege was deceptive with police when they asked about the intoxicated teenager. Police said Deege had known the teens for less than two weeks. The complaint said Deege acknowledged he had alcohol at his home, even though he said he does not drink alcohol.
