Hiawatha man accused of taking $8,000 from Solon nursing home

A Hiawatha man is in jail today and is accused of  misappropriating approximately $8,000 from a nursing home in Solon.

Robert T. Volk, 53, turned himself in to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office early this morning. He is charged with second-degree theft.

Johnson County authorities say in court documents that Volk wrote roughly $8,000 in checks for personal gain while employed at Solon Nursing Care Center. The thefts are alleged to have occurred between Feb. 2009 and Feb. 2010.

According to the criminal complaint, Volk was authorized by the center to write checks and authorize payments for day-to-day operations for the business. A complaint on the misappropriated funds was filled by administration of the Solon Care Center on March 8, according to deputies.
