Leonard L. Vorel passed away May 22, 2021, surrounded by family at his home in Tiffin, Iowa. He was 93 years old. Leonard's family will receive guests from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, 2720 Muscatine Ave., Iowa City, concluding with military honors. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Tiffin Fire Department and First Responders.
Leonard was born Sept. 5, 1927, in Tiffin, Iowa, the son of Louis and Agnes (Maresh) Vorel. He graduated from Tiffin High School in 1947. After graduation, Leonard went to work at Burkett-Rhinehart Ford Dealer. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. In 1956, he married Dolores Kasper. In 1966, Leonard accepted a job at the University of Iowa College of Engineering Department as a research machinist and retired after 25 years.
Leonard was a dearly loved husband, father, grandfather and friend, and will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.
Surviving Leonard is his beloved wife of 64 years, Dolores; children, Lisa Vorel and Scott (Melissa) Vorel; grandchildren, Nicholas, Matthew, Olivia and Elizabeth Vorel; niece, Arlene Johnston; and brother-in-law, William Rogers.
Sadly, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Marvin and Edward Vorel; and sisters-in-law, Frances Wenman, Rita Verry and Mary Ann Verscha.
