McIntyre, Richard H.
Richard H. McIntyre, 86, of Oro Valley, Ariz., formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully June 3, 2012, following an extended illness. His work and chores here on earth were complete and he is coming home. A celebration of his life will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. Graveside services to be held following at 11 a.m. in the Memorial Lawn Section of Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Dick was born Nov. 24, 1925, in Nebraska City, Neb., the son of Elmer H. and Thelma K. McIntyre. The family moved to Cedar Rapids when he was seven years old and he graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1943. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a part of an underwater demolition team and a Seabee during World War II. He was married to Jean Kness, they were later divorced. He was united in marriage to Grace E. Boland June 13, 1968, Grace passed away on April 13, 2012. Dick was a 34 year employee of Iowa Electric retiring in 1984. He was an avid golfer, bowler, member of Iowa Brother of Electrical Workers Local #204, member of Mizpah Masonic Lodge and American Legion Hanford Post No. 5.
Dick is survived by his daughter, Kris Rosel (Kirk) of Shellsburg; his stepdaughter, Cathy Polito (Paul) of Oro Valley, Ariz.; stepson, James Boland (Phyllis) of Pleasant Hill; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Dorothy Chester and Jackie Floerchinger (Ron), both of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace; his parents; his brother, Don McIntyre; and twin grandsons, Donald and Kenneth Polito.
He was a quiet man with a wonderful sense of humor and a good friend. Dick will be greatly missed by his family and all that knew him.
