Julie Bales Brandt, 95, passed away at The Views in Marion on Friday, May 21, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday,
May 25, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home; and also from 9:30 a.m. to Mass time at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church
on Wednesday, May 26, with Father Phil Thompson presiding. Interment will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery-Garden of Eternal Love.
Julia Mary Neuzil was born on Nov. 27, 1925, in Fort Atkinson, Iowa. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Julia (Wandas) Neuzil. She attended St. John's Catholic School and graduated from Fort Atkinson High School.
Julie met Jack Bales on a blind date and were married on Jan. 22, 1949, in Omaha, Neb. They later moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where they raised their family. Julie worked at Collins Radio/Rockwell International until her retirement in 1985. She enjoyed traveling around the country after she retired. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great cook, "ask the kids". She was a member of the Silver Sneakers Club at Rockwell Rec Center. She was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church and volunteered in the office there for 20 years. Julie married Kenny Brandt in 1999.
Those left to cherish Julie's memory are her children, Cheryl Bales of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Robert (Doris) Bales of Viola, Iowa, David Bales, Richard (Amy Kilpatrick) Bales and Gary (Shelly) Bales, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three grandchildren, Kimberly Bales, Daniel Bales and Katie Bales; great-grandchildren, Shamarr, Teiya and Mikah Bales; Khalil and Khalessi Monden; brothers, Danny (Ethie) Neuzil of Decorah, Iowa, and Norbert (Ione) Neuzil of Decorah, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Julie was preceded in death by her husbands, Jack V. Bales, in 1991, and Roy K. Brandt, in 2017; her parents; her brother, Bernard Neuzil; and her infant son, Paul, in 1953.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Hospice of Mercy.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff at both Prairie Hills and The Views in Marion for all the love, care, and support they showed Julia while she was in their care.
