Leonard "Len" E. Chmelicek, 72, of Ely, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021, in his home. As per Len's wishes, private family services and inurnment will be in Czech National Cemetery. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Len was born Aug. 3, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Leonard and Lucille (Tomkins) Chmelicek. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Len worked in his earlier years at the Cedar Rapids Gazette. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.
Len is survived by his daughter, Brenda Holub of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Kaylee Holub, Megan and Luke Havermann; his brother, Mike Chmelicek of Marion; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Cathi Havermann; and his sisters, Lynn (Steve) Pudil and Patricia Harper Nicholson.
