MARY HALBMAIER OLSON
Sun City, Ariz.
On Friday, April 9, 2021, Mary Frances Halbmaier Olson, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 74. Her passing was unexpected and far too soon.
Mary was born on Oct. 18, 1946, to Francis Florian Halbmaier and June Victoria Phillips Halbmaier in Waterloo, Iowa. Mary graduated from Columbus High School in 1964 and later received a degree in cosmetology in 1966.
After school, Mary moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to start her career and soon thereafter a family. In 1970, her son, Chad Elick, was born, and two years later, in 1972, her daughter, Keri Elick Blair, was born.
In 1983, Mary met her love and life partner, Larry Olson. It was then that Larry's daughter, Nancy Olson Condon, joined the family. They later moved to Phoenix, Ariz., in 1989, and eventually settled in Sun City, Ariz.
Mary owned several businesses as well as held several management positions during her career so that her family was always taken care of.
Throughout her life, Mary inspired and encouraged her family to follow their dreams and to never give up. She was incredibly generous with her time and would drop everything to help those she cared about. Mary's personality, laughter and smile were truly infectious. She lit up every room she was in.
A few of Mary's hobbies were blending and using essential oils, along with collecting crystals and other precious stones to help with healing others. She also truly adored roses, butterflies and hummingbirds.
Mary's favorite time of the year was Christmas. She loved the decorations, the lights and especially time with all of her family. Mary and Larry loved decorating their house for everyone to enjoy. Her spirit shined like a true Christmas angel each and every year.
Later in life, Mary retired from work and became a healer and a doting grandma (aka Gigi) to her four granddaughters, Allison Condon, Clare Condon, Sierra Elick and Stella Blair. Whether it was playdates, holidays, weekend get-togethers or phone calls, she spent her retirement years with the loves of her life ... her family.
Mary is survived by her husband, Larry Olson; her son, Chad Elick (wife Donna, daughter Sierra); daughter, Keri Blair (husband Ken, daughter Stella); daughter, Nancy Condon (daughter Allison, daughter Clare); and her brother, Jim Halbmaier.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Karen Heinzman. Mary will be dearly missed by so many, but never forgotten.
A private service will be held by her immediate family in her favorite getaway spot in Sedona. Extended family and friends are welcome to join her family for a Celebration of Life. Contact Chad or Keri for details.
