IOWA CITY - A Hope House resident turned himself back in after running away from authorities Monday, the Johnson County Sheriff's Office said.
According to documents filed by the office, Jermaine M. Gary, 30, signed out of the community-based residential facility to go to an appointment. Roughly half an hour before he was scheduled to return, a Hope House counselor saw him holding a bag of K2 (synthetic marijuana) or another drug known as bath salts. Both are banned from the facility.
When the counselor got out of his car and approached Gary, documents say, Gary threw the bag at him and ran away.
Gary turned himself in to the Johnson County Jail on Tuesday. He is accused of absence from custody, having been assigned to Hope House as a condition of probation.
