Doris I. Thompson, 93, of Iowa City, died Friday, May 16, 2014, at Legacy Point in Iowa City. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 19, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Iowa City. Visitation will be 1 p.m. Monday at the church, where an O.E.S. memorial service will begins at 1:30 p.m. Burial, with military honors, will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in her memory to St. Mark's United Methodist Church or Hospice Compassus.

Doris Irene Meyers was born Nov. 18, 1920, in Nichols, Iowa, the daughter of Gustav and Anna (Geirse) Meyers. Following graduation from Nichols High School, she attended St. Luke's Nursing School in Davenport, where she received her registered nursing degree. She worked at St. Luke's Hospital in Davenport before entering the United States Army during World War II and also served in the Korean conflict as a nurse stationed in the Pacific. Returning to Iowa she worked at the Veterans Domiciliary in Clinton, and when the veterans hospital was built in Iowa City, she and her husband moved there where she worked for many years as a registered nurse before her retirement.
Doris married Roy G. Thompson on Sept. 11, 1953, in Rock Island, Ill. The couple made their home in Iowa City for many years. He died Jan. 29, 1996.
She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Past Worthy Matron of Order of Eastern Star Jessamine Chapter 135, Bethlehem White Shrine No. 8, Rebekah Lodge, Social Order of the Beauceant and Daughters of the Nile.
Her family includes her niece, Susan "Kris" (Steve) Bradish of Nichols; brother-in-law, T.R. Thompson of Marshalltown; three great-nieces; a great-nephew; and a host of dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; brother and his wife, Donald and Marilyn Meyers; and a nephew, Jim Meyers.
Doris' family and her friends would like to thank all the wonderful souls at Legacy Point and staff of Hospice Compassus for the loving, professional and compassionate care of Doris during her last days.
