A new festival is coming to Coralville Labor Day weekend.
Coralville will be hosting its first Coralville Pride Festival. A project that has been in the works for years is finally coming to fruition.
The festival celebrates our diversity and an opportunity for the local LGBTQ+ communities, friends, and allies to join together for a day of fun, interaction, learning, eating, drinking, and enjoying and celebrating life.
Iowa River Landing is hosting the event on Sunday, Sept. 5, from noon until 8 p.m. The entertainment lineup includes a jazz quartet from Chicago, a local community circus troupe, music, dancing, and a special presentation to this year's Pride Honor Roll. The list of 2021 honorees includes Zach Wahls, Liz Mathis, Troy Price, Jan Jensen, Janelle Rettig, Liz Tovar, Charles Swanson, Andrew Sherburne and The Quire of Eastern Iowa. In fact, we will be honoring the classes of 2019 and 2020 as well.
This event is for the whole community. The date was selected so that University of Iowa students, faculty, and staff would be available to attend along with the other local colleges and community colleges.
The event still has openings for vendors, food vendors, volunteers and all-important sponsors. It's the sponsors that will make this event special for all. I hope to see all of you on Sept. 5, at Coralville Pride Festival. There is no better way to engage with each other and celebrate our diversity.
