Many reasons to vote no for library levy

To the editor:
The person writing 'Library is at heart of downtown C.R.” in the Sept. 15 Gazette gave the best reasons for voting no to the library levy that I've heard.
The writer's use of the word 'free” is not what a library is about, it's about free books and periodicals. The library certainly is not an exercise gym, what's with the treadmill? Cost of classes (not sure why or what they are) should be paid by attendees; if someone needs a computer, show proof of need, otherwise pay for its use; conference rooms definitely should be rented, especially if for a commercial use. Hotels charge, so do some restaurants. Why should local businesses be at a disadvantage and compete with a ‘public supported' institution.
No question, it's a very nice building (not sure why the old one couldn't have been renovated. True North did a good job), but if it cannot be self-supporting, charges for its use should be implemented.
I think most of us agree that a public library is good for the community, but all the 'freebies” are not necessary. It's high time those responsible for fiscally managing the library exercise better judgment and live within their means.
