Grissel, Elmer Jr.
Elmer Grissel Jr., 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Living Center West, Cedar Rapids. Private Services will be at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cedar Rapids. Burial: at Rogers Grove Cemetery. He was almost a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Margaret (Jenkins) Grissel of Cedar Rapids; children, Timothy (Gayle) Grissel of Solon and Joe (Joan) Grissel Camdenton, Mo.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Joan (Arnold) Maney of Southport, Conn.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Sadie Grissel; and a sister, Jane Conrad.
Elmer was born July 21, 1921, in Cedar Rapids, son of Elmer Frank and Sadie (Kohler) Grissel. He was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated from Roosevelt High School. He was an Eagle Scout with the most merit badges in Cedar Rapids. Elmer Graduated from the University of Iowa as a mechanical engineer, where he was a member of the Scottish Highlanders. On Sept. 29, 1944, he married Margaret Jenkins in Louisville, Ky. Elmer worked at Collins Radio, then at the family business Grissel Company, until he retired at the age of 62. He was a member of El Kahir Shrine Temple and Crescent Lodge #25 A.F. &A.M. Elmer and Margaret enjoyed traveling and eventually traveled around the world.
Instead of flowers memorials may be directed to Shriners Crippled Children's Hospitals.
