Stangeland, Gretchen
Gretchen Stangeland, 74, of Waukon, Iowa, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Home in Waukon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church fellowship hall.
Gretchen Ruth Stangeland was born July 14, 1938, in Hinsdale, Ill., the daughter of Oscar and Ann (Wachaendorf) White. She graduated from Serena High School in 1956 and from Copley School of Nursing in Aurora, Ill., in 1959, and from the Aurora College School of Nursing in 1976 with a Teacher Nurse Certification.
Gretchen married David Stangeland on March 14, 1959, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ottawa, Ill. Gretchen was a nurse for all of her life, working in several Midwestern and Southern locations. She was a school nurse most of the last 20 years of her career working for several school districts.
Gretchen is survived by her husband, David of Waukon; and her children, Kyle of Monona, Iowa, and Scott of Bloomfield, Mich. Gretchen is also survived by five grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Bob White of St. Petersburg, Fla.
