Letter: Trump’s visit highlights need for new infrastructure

Politics aside, it's a notable occasion to have the president, secretary of Agriculture and Secretary of Commerce all in town for an evening. During the president's remarks, several areas of focus stood out to me.
I'm glad the administration is focusing on the need for critical infrastructure in this country again. The president commented on his proposal to infuse up to $1 trillion into infrastructure for our nation, including rural broadband expansion in Iowa.
Beyond the updates we desperately need for our bridges, roads, locks and dams, the president touted support for the Keystone XL pipeline and recently completed Dakota Access Pipeline. The president noted how these pipelines are 'better for the environment and safer.” Using fewer trucks or railcars to transport our energy is a good thing.
Oftentimes, we take for granted how we get the energy we need everyday. This administration has shown that they are committed to improving the United States' energy policy, while creating less expensive energy options for us and promoting new job creation in the process.
You may not agree with everything the president is proposing, but a strong commitment to infrastructure and to our domestic energy sector are a few policies many of us are excited to get behind.
