Judge girl athletes on their play, not anthem
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jan. 27, 2012 11:24 pm
A gentleman wrote recently, concerned about girl athletes swinging their arms while the national anthem is being presented. Since a number of teams are doing this, I would guess they are keeping rhythm to the song and words, and it has a special meaning and there is a logical reason.
No girls' team would blatantly be disrespectful in that regard while coaches, parents and the crowd watches. Give the girls credit for their dedication, handiwork, obeying team rules, being respectful of coaches and teammates, learning discipline and learning how to win and lose in good sportsmanship.
Let the gentleman relax and watch the girl athletes compete and excel.
