Bloom wrote to encourage dialogue

Folks, we must understand that Stephen Bloom is an academic journalist and as such is required to participate in some form of journalism. Never mind that journalists are responsible to deliver facts in a way that the reader can learn and grow from them.
Journalistic opinion must be labeled as such and, as opinion, is not required to reflect facts or truth. An opinion journalist is professionally trying to get thinking and discussion going about vital things in the public arena. The writing of opinion journalism has the potential to stir the public up a bit. Usually that's the reason for the writing.
Recently, Bloom was quite successful in stirring people up. He feels it is unfair that we take his writing personally and feels that we are unreasonable in responding so strongly. He attempts to show us that our ire is amusing and only to be expected from such limited-capacity people. After all, Bloom is writing out of the goodness of his heart and only wishes us the benefits of his services. Bloom would never accept payment for writing in what he calls satire.
