Freeman Frederick Harry Kaufmann, 96, of Wilton, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at Pinnacle Elder Group Homes, Muscatine. A visitation will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 22, at Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 22, at Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton. Burial with military rites will take place in Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton. Memorials may be given to the Wilton Ambulance fund. Condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.
Freeman was born on Oct. 28, 1924, the son of Harry and Martha (Hain) Kaufmann in Cedar County. He attended the Sharon and Lime City country schools and graduated from Wilton High School, with the Class of 1941. Freeman proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Freeman married Ruby Whitmer on February 24, 1945 in Killeen, Texas. Ruby passed away on Dec. 7, 2008.
Freeman farmed for over 60 years on the family farms in rural Cedar county. Farming was his life and he would often work twelve plus hour days into his late 80s. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wilton and the Durant American Legion. Freeman enjoyed traveling and wintering in the south with his wife, Ruby. He was also an avid shuffleboard player and water skier.
Freeman will be dearly missed by three sons, Harry (Kathy) Kaufmann of Moscow, Steve Kaufmann of Wilton and Jeff (Vicki) Kaufmann of Wilton; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby; one son, Robert Kaufmann; a daughter, Diane Kay Kaufmann; a grandson, Curtis Kaufmann; one great-granddaughter, Ezralynn; two sisters, Dorothy Whitmer and Evelyn Lacey; three brothers, Lawrence, Fred and Richard Kaufmann; and two infant brothers.
