The Walkthrough (will update to 10:30)

-- Iowa cornerback Greg Castillo might be iffy today. He was dinged and missed some practice. Sophomore Willie Lowe would be the guy, if that's the case. Or maybe true freshman Micah Hyde. He'd be making his first start, seeing his first significant action, in a very, very hostile environment against a fine quarterback and a no-huddle spread offense.
If DC Norm Parker rolls personnel, maybe things tilt toward linebacker and junior Jeff Tarpinian over extra DBs. Even if Castillo play, Iowa's secondary still might be stretching it thin in N and D.
-- How healthy is Iowa WR Derrell Johnson-Koulianos? He missed some camp with a hamstring injury. He played sparingly last week, catching one pass for 22 yards. Watch Iowa WR. It's pretty much all hands on deck for Iowa's offense. It needs all the experienced players it can get. UPDATE: DJK is out on the field and dressed. Looks good to go.
-- There was a Cy-Hawk Trophy sighting, down by one of the pylons in the end zone near the ISU athletics complex. It's still the ugliest trophy in sport, but it's the state trophy, so there you guy. Wait, there it again, an Iowa manager is toting it over for some TV shots. Isn't this bad luck or something? When teams win the President Cup trophy in the NHL (best regular season), the players steer clear of the trophy. Hockey players are weird that way, though.
-- I went down to the inflatable tunnel where Iowa State players run out to the field. The goalpost is right there. I can see where a guy could run into that, with the smoke machine going and everything.
-- If you wanted to sit in the ISU student section, you'd better hurry. They're running across the hillside and into the bleachers. They're filling fast, too.
-- The Gazette's Scott Dochterman ran into Iowa CB Jordan Bernstine out in the parking lot. He broke his ankle early in camp and will take a redshirt this season. He's not happy. Check Scott's blog.
-- Iowa specialists are out. K Trent Mossbrucker is dressed. No idea what that means, just an observation.
-- I spilled mustard.
-- The sun is out. The temperature is only supposed to be 70-ish at kick, but the humidity will be in the 70s, too.
-- ISU radio voice John Walters is talking ISU defense right now on the Iowa pregame. He likes ISU's defense. It worked on fundamentals during camp, with "fundamentals" meaning tackling. It showed up last week.
-- Wow, we're about 70 minutes from finally kicking this thing off. It feels like 5:15 a.m. in SW CR with Hall and Oates' "Private Eyes" on KUNI was just like two minutes ago.
-- Iowa AD Gary Barta just said OL Bryan Bulaga should be OK going forward. He talked about Iowa's running game and getting it going. (This is on the Iowa radio pregame, BTW.)
-- Iowa RB Adam Robinson just jogged over to the bleachers to greet Bernstine. They played together at Des Moines Lincoln.
-- RIP, Dorothy Podolak.
-- Ferentz on Bulaga -- Hospitalized for a couple nights. Very concerned. Released Thursday and rejoined team. Optimistic he'll rejoin the team next week. Not serious. Hoping for rebound.
-- Redshirt freshman Riley Reiff is starting at LT, Ferentz said.
-- That probably means Dace Richardson inside and Kyle Calloway at RT.
-- Ferentz said running game isn't going the way they want. Hoping it's better soon.
-- Calloway is good to go. G Julian Vandervelde will be playing his first competitive football of the year today. Ferentz said he doesn't know how long he'll be able to go, but should help some.
-- Iowa linemen not out yet. But from the radio show, it sounds like Reiff/Calloway at tackles, Dace/Vandervelde and Gettis/Doering at guard and Raf at C.
-- Hold the presses, Iowa people. Your referee for today's game is . . . Dave Witvoet. Discuss.
-- Ferentz and Paul Rhoads just shook hands.
-- We're going to the chat now. Please, join us. Here's the link.
You can kind of maybe see how a guy could run into that, with all the smoke and adrenaline and everything. (Marc Morehouse)
