Ashmore, John
John Ashmore, 91, at Silver Pines, died there Friday, August 14, 2009. Memorial Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum. Friends may call after 2:30 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
John is survived by a son, John; and grandson, Dustin.
He was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn; brothers; and sisters.
John was born September 20, 1917 in Oakland, Ill. to Earl and Muriel Ashmore. He married Kathryn Klingbeil on August 26, 1950 in Postville. She died in 1989. John was an Army veteran of World War II, receiving both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of the VFW Post in Alton, Ill, the Masons, and a proud member of the UAW Local #1024. He worked at Cherry–Burrell for over 32 years, retiring in 1982. John loved woodworking and will be remembered for his love of his neighborhood children.
