Revenue goes back into community

Why I believe a (Cedar Rapids) casino makes sense. The business plan is well researched and funded by individuals who are successful in their business endeavors. I trust my partners.
We have tried to spur economic recovery through a local-option sales tax twice and the culture of no voted for no new taxes. This casino project is privately funded, asking for no tax relief, and still people are dissatisfied. You cannot say no forever. Soon you will not have a community to even debate a yes or no discussion.
The casino will put $2.4 million in charitable dollars and an additional $3.5 million in tax revenue back into our community. You need to look at the full picture. The casino will put millions of dollars back into our community, dollars we previously did not have to spend.
One thing does trouble me. It is how the no vote uses innuendos, partial truths and my biggest complaint, social media, to say things they would never say to someone's face. We tell our children to be smart and respectful with social media - why should adults be any different? The smearing of Steve Gray and the threats to his personal well-being are disappointing and just plain wrong. Let's debate the merits of the plan; the actual numbers based on facts and the impact on our community.
Linn County is a great place to live and raise a family. I believe this project will contribute in keeping this a great place.
