Your voice needed to protect animals

After passing a bill to allow mourning dove hunting in Iowa, there are many happy people. Sen. Dick Dearden is happy that this day has finally come after 14 years of pushing for it. Gov. Terry Branstad was so happy that he thanked members of the House. Rep. Rich Arnold was happy, as this is likely to attract “about 20,000 new hunters annually and create nearly $7 million in economic activity and about $423,000 a year in state revenue.”
Iowa is one of 41 states that allow target practice using these beautiful creatures. That makes me sad and ashamed of the politicians who made this happen.
Also: I learned in a March 27 letter that the latest “animal project” is a bill, (HF 589, passed already by the House and now going to the Senate) that would make it a crime to photograph undercover video of animal abuse at puppy mills or farm facilities. Go to www.legis.iowa.gov for more information, and contact your state senator to oppose this bill.
