The Iowa House Republicans' first bill includes cutting the following:
l Direct the Education Appropriations Budget Subcommittee to combine the administrative functions at the Regents universities to find efficiencies.
l Reduce funding for library acquisitions at Regents universities by 50 percent of unencumbered appropriation.
l Cancel all Regents university sabbaticals for 18 months.
l Eliminate voluntary preschool.
l Eliminate K-12 core curriculum.
l Cut the Area Education Associations (AEAs) by $10 million.
l Eliminate $8.5 million for passenger rail project.
l Eliminate Just Eliminate Lies, Quitline Iowa and other smoking cessation efforts.
l Eliminate the state family planning waiver.
l Eliminate the Rebuild Iowa Office.
l Eliminate Power Fund.
l Eliminate Office of Energy Independence.
l Eliminate the $30 million for sustainable communities.
l Eliminate the Grow Iowa Values Fund beginning July 1.
l End all state benefits to adult illegal immigrants.
l Enforce residency requirements for all human services programs.
l Repeal current mental health statute
l Mandate new system that includes $125 million in dollar-for-dollar property tax relief by July 1, 2013.
What were your priorities when you voted in November? Will cutting taxes, jobs, education and mainly federal funding of rail service to Iowa City really help create jobs and income? Call or write your legislators and give ideas to raise income.
