Conlin would bring sunshine to Senate
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Aug. 1, 2010 12:23 am
Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, has just voted against the long-standing bipartisan belief and long-held Gazette editorial view that the best disinfectant for political money is sunshine. His refusal to allow debate and a vote on the DISCLOSE Act denies the right of Iowans to know who is donating and making campaign expenditures for the purpose of influencing votes in Congress. This right has been affirmed by the Supreme Court for decades and, again, in the recent Citizens United case.
Roxanne Conlin understands that money talks in Washington. That's why she refuses special-interest PAC money and strongly supports full disclosure of congressional influence pedalling.
