Murphy shines as Kernels down Lake County, 9-7

EASTLAKE, Ohio - Jonathan Murphy had three hits and three RBIs to help lift the Cedar Rapids Kernels past the Lake County Captains, 9-7, in Midwest League baseball Thursday night.
The Kernels (58-36) go for the weep of the three-game series Friday night at 6.
Murphy led off the game with a double, had a solo home run in the third inning and two-run single in the fourth. Cedar Rapids scored five fourth-inning runs to take a 6-2 lead it never relinquished.
The Kernels finished with 12 hits, including two apiece from Jorge Polanco and Adam Brett Walker. Polanco drove in two.
Starting pitcher Josue Montanez (4-2) threw six innings to get the victory. He allowed seven hits and five runs, three earned.
Madison Boer pitched the ninth for his first save.
