Aug. 10, 2013 2:18 am
BELOIT, Wis. - The Cedar Rapids Kernels scored five runs total in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings and went on to a 7-4 win over the Beloit Snappers on Friday night at Pohlman Field, sweeping the three-game Midwest League series.
The Kernels (70-45 overall) came into this series having lost six games in a row at Beloit, but came out of it with a three-game win streak. Five players had two hits each in the game, with Max Kepler and Adam Brett Walker both hitting home runs: Walker's 25th. He now is one RBI shy of 100 this season.
Mason Melotakis (10-4) picked up his 10th victory of the season by going 2 1/3 inning of scoreless relief. The usual starting pitcher is having his innings chopped down the stretch in order to pitch in September's Midwest League playoffs.
Madison Boer threw a scoreless ninth for his fourth save. Cedar Rapids begins a series Saturday night at Kane County.
