Clark, Leola Zavodsky
Leola Zavodsky Clark, 103, of Mercy Hallmar, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center from complications of age. Services: at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, by the Rev. Harlan Gillespie. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday
Survivors include two stepsons, Jack (Darla) Clark of Cedar Rapids and David M. (Joan) Clark of Poncha Springs, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Shirley Clark; her parents, Barbara and Charles Zavodsky; and brother, Chauncey Zavodsky.
Leola was born in Marengo. She graduated from the Cedar Rapids Business College in 1926 and was employed at the Cedar Rapids office of the Equitable Life of Iowa. She became a sales agent in 1944 and was the first woman to qualify for the Million Dollar Sales Club. Leola was a past president of the C.R. Life Underwriters Association, and was active in the State Underwriters Association. She received the state's "Man of the Year" award in 1967. She also served as President of the National Underwriters Women's Leaders Roundtable and was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Memorial donations may be given to St. Paul's United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society in Leola's name.
